How to Upload a File and Link to it Using the Online Editor E-mail
Wednesday, January 13, 2010

It is recommended to enter text directly using online editor, which will make the full text available for search. However, there are times when uploading an original document makes sense, either because the document is lengthy, or because it has special formatting.

To upload a file and link to it in an article:

  • Enter the link text - the link text does not have to be the name of the file to be uploaded. Some simple descriptive text such as "Click here for the full document" shall suffice.
  • Highlight the link text then click the Insert/Edit Link button on the editor tool bar.

    Figure - Insert/Edit Link

  • In the link dialog box that pops up, click the Upload Tab.

    Figure - Upload Tab

If you are linking to a previously uploaded file, you should click Browse Server button instead.

  • Click the Browse Button to locate the file to be uploaded.

    Figure - Browse Button

  • Highlight the file to be uploaded then click the Open Button.

    Figure - Open File

  • Click Send it to the Server to upload the selected file.

    Figure - Send to Server

  • Click OK to confirm.

    Figure - OK to Confirm

  • You are then returned to the Link Info Tab where the URL has been automatically entered for you. Click OK and you are done!

    Figure - Done Add Link

To edit/change the link, place cursor within the link text and then click the Insert/Edit Link button on the editor tool bar again.

To remove the link, place cursor within the link text and then click the Remove Link button.

To update a previously uploaded file, just overwrite the old file with the updated version by uploading the same file to the same location on the server.

Only administrators can delete any file from the server. This is to prevent accidental deletion of files uploaded by someone else in a collaborative environment.
