APEC EGS is a CMS application. A Content Management System (CMS) is a collection of procedures used to manage data in a collaborative environment.

The main advantage of CMS is the separation of design and content, which makes it well suited for sites with dynamic (constantly changing) content. Leveraging modern database technologies, a well-designed CMS can manage huge amount of data while providing easy access and retrieval.

Benefits of CMS:

  • Allow for a large number of people to contribute to and share stored data.
  • Control access to data, based on user roles.
  • Aid in easy storage and retrieval of data.
  • Reduce repetitive duplicate input.
  • Improve communication between users.

In a CMS, data can be almost anything - documents, movies, pictures, phone numbers, scientific reports, etc. In APEC EGS CMS, an "article" is the basic holding unit/container for data.
